Description
The Old Railway Station is a former railway station, now a house, built around 1847 by G T Andrews for the York and North Midland Railway Company. It is constructed of brown brick with stone dressings and has slate roofs. The building is two storeys high and has three bays, with the centre bay projecting forward beneath a low gable.
The central bay features a canted design with sash windows that have glazing bars, topped with a dentilled cornice. To the left of this bay is a railway clock with Roman numerals set in a scalloped ceramic surround. The other sash windows, also with glazing bars and sills, are set under slightly cambered gauged brick arches in recesses that are similarly arched.
A moulded band runs along the first floor. In the centre of the first floor, there are paired round-headed sash windows with glazing bars under round gauged brick arches. An oculus is present in the pediment above. On either side, there are smaller sash windows with sills and glazing bars, also under slightly cambered gauged brick arches in recesses beneath similar arches. The eaves overhang, and there are axial stacks on the roof.
