Description
The Old Courthouse is a building that dates from the 15th or 16th century, originally used for an unknown purpose, possibly as a courthouse, and is now a garden shed. It features mainly rubble construction with some brick repairs and stone dressings, topped with a replacement pantile roof. The building is single storey and has four bays.
On the left side, there is a fragment of a chamfered plinth made of tooled stone. In the third bay, there is a board door set in a hollow moulded basket arch with chamfered jambs, accompanied by a square-headed window positioned high to the left and a basket-arched window with a double chamfered surround to the right.
The south gable end has a fragmentary chamfered plinth and features a double leaf board door beneath a brick basket arch, flanked by square-headed windows in chamfered surrounds, with a chamfered horizontal band above. The north gable end displays two pairs of pointed cinque-cusped windows in chamfered surrounds. A substantial stepped buttress is located on the south-west side, and the lower part of the west wall is constructed of ashlar.
