Description
Low Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the late 18th century to the early 19th century, with later additions and alterations made for Sir Christopher Sykes, 2nd Baronet of Sledmere. It is constructed of pinkish-brown brick in English garden wall bond and features a Welsh slate roof. The building has two storeys with attics and three first-floor windows.
A slightly projecting, off-centre round-headed brick arch rises to full height and has brick imposts. To the right of this arch is the entrance, which consists of a part-glazed door. The ground floor has three 16-pane sash windows, and the outer bays of the first floor also have 16-pane sashes under flat arches made of gauged brick. The central first-floor window is a round-headed staircase window with a 12-pane sash and radial glazing at the top.
The attic windows, which flank the brick arch, are unequally hung and consist of 3-light 10-pane Yorkshire sashes. The building features a stepped band, overhanging eaves, a hipped roof, and ridge stacks.
