Description
No 9 on Newbegin is a late 17th-century building that stands two storeys tall, constructed from red brick and topped with a tile roof featuring two dormers. The exterior showcases a moulded brick eaves cornice and a plinth. It has three windows, although the window arrangement was renewed in the early 19th century. The ground floor features an arched door leading to a passage and a bay window dating from around 1845. The wooden doorcase, from around 1780, includes an architrave, chambranles, enriched consoles, a frieze that is broken over the consoles, and is decorated with three fleurs-de-lys and fluting, topped with a dentil pediment. The original 17th-century door has three bolection-moulded panels. There are wrought iron guard rails and scrapers present. Several original sash windows can still be seen on the garden front. Inside, there is a good main stair made of oak, along with a secondary stair, while most other interior details are from the early 19th century.
