Description
Norman Lodge East is a lodge to Birkenhead Park, built around 1843-1847 by architects Lewis Hornblower and John Robertson for Sir Joseph Paxton. The building features ashlar stone facing and a Welsh slate roof. It is single-storeyed with a two-storey central block, comprising three bays that are symmetrical along both axes. The central block has a recessed entrance flanked by fluted Doric shafts and a plain entablature, with single-storey bays that advance on either side. The windows have been renewed in their original openings and feature shouldered architraves, with an inserted window above the doorway. There are side wall stacks on the central range. This lodge is one of a pair with Norman Lodge West and is part of the original development of Birkenhead Park.
