Description

The gatepiers and adjoining wall to the east of Mere Hall were built around 1880, likely designed by Edmund Kirby. The gatepiers are made of sandstone and have an irregular octagonal shape, featuring plain cardinal faces and attached shafts on the other sides, topped with moulded caps. The wall is constructed of ashlar stone with coping on each side. The double gates have ramped top rails and shaped strap hinges, which are probably from the same period as the gatepiers and wall.
