Description

37 Bidston Road is a house built around 1880, constructed of brick and topped with a Welsh slate roof. It stands two storeys high with an attic and features a three-window range. The entrance is located in a recessed full-height porch on the right side. The building has an asymmetrical facade facing the street, highlighted by a narrow off-centre gable that advances slightly, containing paired 2-pane sash windows on the main floors and a single attic window in the apex. To the right, there is a large canted bay window with a hipped roof, accompanied by a narrow sash window above it. On the left side, there are narrow sash windows. The lower windows have shallow segmentally arched heads, while the first-floor windows are topped with steeper pointed arches that are accented with continuous hood moulds. String courses run above each storey, and there is an axial stack. The roof features ridge cresting and finials.

Inside, the house includes fittings designed by C.F.A. Voysey, notably in the rear dining room, which showcases oak joinery, wainscot, a chimney piece adorned with blue tiles, octagonal posts, and a built-in sideboard. The painted joinery includes a cupboard and a wash basin in the bedroom above, as well as a tall chimney piece decorated with white tiles.
