Description

A terrace of four houses, numbers 26 to 32 York Street, was built around 1854 as part of a planned village for the Price’s Patent Candle Company, representing one of the earliest examples of a model industrial village. The houses are constructed of brick with hipped slate roofs. They are arranged over two storeys and have eight bays. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, each with a gauged-brick flat arch above. The entrances feature Tudor-arched surrounds with fanlights containing glazing bars, originally with four-panel doors. Numbers 26 and 28 now have 20th-century replacement doors. Three chimney stacks are positioned across the front of the building. The rear elevations include gabled wings.
