Description

This is a terrace of five houses, numbered 57 to 65 Bebington Road, built around 1899 as part of the Port Sunlight model village. Designed by William and Segar Owen, the houses are constructed of brick with hipped tile roofs and pebbledash on the first floor. The design features two storeys and three bays, each with projecting pavilions.

The ground floors are recessed behind elliptical arches set between buttresses, topped by a prominent cornice. The first floor is pebbledashed and features brick quoins marking the division between bays. Ground floor windows are small-paned casements, with three lights and gauged brick cambered arches. Pavilion windows are small-paned casements with segmental heads. First-floor windows are four-light oriels with cornices projecting above the eaves; the central bay’s has a round pediment, while the one on the right has a round arch incorporated into the glazing bars. Each pavilion also has a two-light half-dormer with a segmental pediment. Narrow windows are located on either side of the central bay. The houses have plank doors, with two stacks of chimneys running across the front and two cruciform chimneys. The rear elevations include half-dormers and what were originally privies. The side returns also feature half-dormers.
