Description

The gateway to the former Liscard Battery, dated 1858, is constructed from rock-faced stone with ashlar dressings. It features an entrance archway with a four-centred head and continuous double-chamfered mouldings, topped with a datestone. Above the archway is a corbelled embattled parapet. The gateway is flanked by octagonal towers that include slots and cornices, also adorned with embattled parapets. This structure served as the entrance to the Liscard Battery, which was built to defend the approaches to Liverpool on the site of powder magazines.
