Description
A terrace of 10 houses, numbered 1-7 Pool Bank, built around 1899 by William and Segar Owen, as part of the Port Sunlight model village. The houses are constructed of brick with stone dressings, with pebbledash to the first floor in some areas and some tile hanging. They have tile roofs. The terrace is two storeys high and comprises eight bays, with a canted corner bay and five bays facing Pool Bank. The first bay projects forward under a gable, while the second and fifth bays also project under gables. The sixth bay has a projection with a lean-to roof. A drip mould runs over the ground floor. The second and fifth bays feature tile-hung first floors. Ground floor windows have gauged-brick flat arches and small-paned casements. First floor windows are similar, with the first-floor window in the first bay being a canted oriel beneath a jettied gable. The third and fourth bays have continuous canted oriels over separate canted bases. The sixth bay has a half-canted, flat-topped dormer. Entrances feature gauged-brick flat arches and plank doors. The left (rear) return includes a projecting lateral stack and a half-canted bay window with stone mullions, a cornice, and a lead-clad ogival roof over the oriel. The corner bay has stone dressings, including a band over the ground floor, first-floor quoins, and a coped gable. Canted angles to the ground floor have elaborately moulded stops. A four-light, double-chamfered mullioned window with a king mullion and leaded lights is present, along with similar lights in the angled corners. The first floor has a five-light window similar to the ground floor, with elliptical headed lights and a dripmould. The Pool Bank facade is similarly designed, with the end two bays projecting under gables and a central lateral stack. First floor canted oriels are present, with those flanking the stacks being half-canted. There are five cross-axial stacks and a lateral stack to the left of the corner bay.
