Description
This is a terrace of eight houses located on Riverside, built in 1895 by Grayson and Ould. The houses are constructed of brick with stone dressings and feature tile roofs. They are one storey high with an attic and consist of eight bays, with the ninth and tenth bays each recessed by one bay. The first two bays project forward under a hipped roof, while the central and end bays project under gables.
The terrace has a weathered stone base, a Lombard frieze over the ground floor, and a diapered band on the projecting bays. The ground floor windows have chamfered stone lintels and leaded casements, either one or two lights. The first floor features leaded casements, with the central bay having paired three-light canted oriels, and the end bays having paired two-light windows, all topped with tile-hung gables that extend out as canopies.
Most of the gabled dormers on the other bays have two lights, except for the dormer on the second bay, which has four lights. The entrances are framed with stone surrounds and have plank doors with leaded lights. There are five cross-axial stacks. The ninth and tenth bays are similar in design, with the ninth bay featuring a four-light canted oriel, a return lateral stack, and a gabled bay. The tenth bay has a half-hipped roof, a return with a crow-stepped gable, a dormer, and both cross-axial and rear stacks. The rear of the terrace has gables on the end bays and includes gabled and flat-topped dormers, as well as privies.
