Description
Nos. 1 to 4 D'Arcy Cottages is a terrace of four houses built in 1906 by J. Lomax Simpson. The cottages are constructed of stone and roughcast with a slate roof and rise to two storeys, featuring five bays. The first bay is made of stone and projects under a gable, while the second and third bays are roughcast with a jettied first floor supported by a bracketed bressumer. The fourth bay also projects under a jettied gable and has a canted ground floor made of stone with a roughcast first floor. The fifth bay features a canted angle and a hipped roof.
The windows in the stone sections have double-chamfered mullions. The first bay includes a two-storey canted bay window with a configuration of 1:4:1 lights, and similar windows are found on the ground floor of the fourth bay and the first floor of the fifth bay. The second and third bays have five-light casements on the ground floor and four-light hipped half dormers on the first floor. The fourth bay features a five-light canted oriel window under the jettied gable. All windows are fitted with leaded glazing.
The entrances are located in the center and consist of plank doors with small-paned lights, while the end bays have elliptical-headed entrances. The first bay has a hipped porch, and the end bay features a lintel with a date. The returns of the cottages have projecting gabled roughcast bays, two lateral stacks, and three additional stacks.
