Description
The chapel at Carlett Park Technical College was built around 1887 by architect John Douglas. It features snecked stone with lighter bands and a slate roof. The structure includes a single-vessel nave and chancel, along with a small north transept that has an extension under a cat slide roof. Notable architectural details include a sill course, a continuous hood mould, and coped gables. The east window is adorned with a hood mould that has angel stops and three cusped lancets. The south facade showcases three lancets and two pairs of lancets in the chancel, with the second pair being shorter and featuring a quatrefoil in the hood. The north facade has two lancets and one in the transept. The west end is highlighted by a two-light traceried window, and the canted north angle has an entrance with a canopied niche that contains a figure of the Good Shepherd, along with angel corbels and an octagonal bell turret. The straight-headed windows and short spire complete the design. The southwest angle was reconstructed after the house was demolished.
Inside, the chapel has a boarded waggon roof with ribs and bosses in the sanctuary, and a two-bay blind arcade on the north side. An inscription on the south wall commemorates retreats held from 1912 to 1916. The piscina features a trefoil head with a shelf and cupboard above. The east window is flanked by mosaic panels set in pointed recesses. A 20th-century timber screen is located at the west end, which also includes a corbelled door to the turret and an inscription noting the chapel's construction. The chapel is enhanced by good stained glass windows created by E. Frampton and Kempe.
