Description

This early 19th-century lodge, formerly known as the Old Post Office and now a house, is situated on the east side of Eastham Village Road. Constructed of stone, the building has a hipped slate roof. It is two storeys high with four bays, and the central bays project forward under a pediment. A first-floor sill band and a top cornice run around the building. The windows are largely sash windows with glazing bars, although those in the first and second bays of the ground floor and the second and third bays of the first floor are small-paned casements. A central, canted porch is supported by unfluted Doric columns, triangular pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice, and contains a six-panel door. Two chimney stacks run across the building. The left return has a blocked entrance and a horizontally sliding sash window. The right return features a Doric doorcase with a half-glazed door and overlight, along with a sliding sash window.
