Description
Numbers 1-4 Bank Nook are a row of four houses, likely dating from the later 18th century, with enlargements in the later 19th century. Number 4 was rebuilt and enlarged in the late 20th century. The houses are constructed of white painted render and roughcast, likely over brick, and have slate roofs. They have a linear, single-depth plan arranged at right angles to the road, with additions to the rear.
The houses have three levels, with Number 1 at the left end being two-storied, presenting a 1:2:2:3 window arrangement. Number 1 features a gabled porch to the left, with a 3-light casement window on each floor, and a gable chimney to the left, as well as a lean-to extension to the left-hand gable wall. Number 2 has a small gabled porch to the left and 3-light and 2-light casement windows. Number 3 has a similar porch flanked by 2-light casements to the left and a 3-light casement to the right. Number 4, which is lower, has an off-set gabled porch to the left, one 3-light sliding sash window to the left, and two similar windows to the right. An old brick chimney is built against the gable wall of Number 1, and there are two rebuilt ridge chimneys.
The rear of Numbers 2 and 3 has late 19th-century single-storey gabled service wings. Number 4 has a longer rear wing, linked to Number 5, featuring a 3-light sliding sash window and a gable chimney.
The interior was not inspected. The row forms a group with Numbers 5, 6, 6A and 7, collectively creating a small square.
