Description
Nos 1-12 Manor House is a house, originally used as a Home for Epileptics from the late 19th century, and converted into apartments in the early 21st century. It dates to the late 18th century, although an earlier lintel inscribed "BMA/1638/WM" suggests a prior structure. The building is constructed of brick with stone dressings and has a slate roof. It is two storeys high with a high basement and attic, and consists of three bays. The design incorporates a basement lintel band, a top cornice, and a stone-coped brick parapet. The end canted bays feature tripartite windows with angle pilasters and colonnettes with fluted capitals, and entablatures with fluted friezes incorporating rosettes. All windows are sash windows with glazing bars. A central first-floor window is distinguished by an eared and shouldered architrave, a fluted frieze with a rosette, and a cornice. The central entrance, approached by 12 steps, is framed by Doric columns, a frieze decorated with festoons and rosettes, and a pediment. It has a fanlight with radial glazing bars and a four-panel door. The attic includes flat-topped dormers and a glazed belvedere. The left return shows windows with wedge lintels, two of which are round-headed. A ground-floor window in the sixth bay has an earlier dated lintel. There are two stacks to each return.
