Description

Numbers 137, 139, and 141 are a commercial building located on Lord Street in Southport, dating from the later 19th century and featuring alterations. The building has shops on the ground floor and an attached verandah. It is constructed of painted brick and has a hipped slate roof, while the verandah is made of cast-iron and glass. The building has a rectangular plan and stands three storeys tall with a two-window range.

The exterior includes a 20th-century shop front at the ground floor, with pilasters on the upper floors. There is a sill band at the second floor and prominent bracketed eaves. The first floor has two larger 3-light windows with round-headed lights, slender shafts, and pilastered architraves with cornices. The second floor features two 3-light windows with carved capitals on the mullions.

The verandah is three bays wide, with a single-pitched glazed roof supported by slender cast-iron columns and long ornamental brackets. Above the central bay, there is a pediment with elaborate scrolled open-work and cresting.

The building forms a group with Nos. 127-133 to the left and is part of a series that characterizes this street. The interior was not inspected.
