Description

Nos. 19-29 Clarence Street form a terrace of six early 19th-century houses. The buildings are constructed in brick with stone dressings, topped with slate roofs and tall end stacks. Each house has three storeys and a basement, with three bays. A moulded cornice and sill band run along the facade. The windows have wedge lintels and sash windows. The doorways are round-arched, each featuring a traceried fanlight and a Doric doorcase. No. 19 (previously listed as 21A) has a late 19th-century shop front and a stuccoed facade. Nos. 21 and 23 retain their original sash windows with glazing bars and complete fanlights and lack columns to their doorcases. Plain iron area railings are present on the return of No. 19 (formerly 21A). No. 29 has been altered with the ground floor divided into two modern shop fronts. This group value reflects the terrace's architectural and historical significance.
