Description
Allerton Priory is a former house that has been converted into apartments, built between 1867 and 1870 by A. Waterhouse for John Grant Morris, who was the Mayor of Liverpool from 1866 to 1867. The building is constructed of brick with blue brick and stone banding and dressings, topped with a slate roof featuring blue tile cresting. It has an irregular plan and fenestration, predominantly showcasing mullioned windows, some of which have relieving arches.
The structure is two stories tall with an attic and consists of ten bays. The first and second bays project, with the second bay breaking forward under a gable. The fourth bay also breaks forward under a gable, while the seventh bay projects and forms the base of a tower. This tower features a cusped pointed entrance with two orders between angle buttresses, along with two and three-light windows, corbelled pinnacles, an arcaded parapet, and a pavilion roof with hipped dormers and iron cresting.
The porch includes a rib vault, and the entrance hall boasts a large stone fireplace with a canopy. A staircase to the side is adorned with arcading on the ground and first floors, and there is a stained glass window in the stairwell.
