Description

The Midshires Building Society is a bank building from the 1860s, located on Water Street. It is constructed of stone and features two storeys, with three bays facing Water Street and five bays on Lower Castle Street. The ground floor is rusticated, with quoins and a dentilled cornice above it. The first-floor windows are topped with pediments, and there are sashed windows above with fixed glazing bars. The building has a top modillioned cornice and a balustraded parapet. On the left side, there is a return with a pilastered doorway and the arms of Manchester and Liverpool above. An inscription on the quoin reads "Victoria Dei Gratia 1883," and the initials "MLDB" are found on the keystone. Above, there is a tripartite window, and the interior is classical in style, featuring swags.
