Description
The Cloisters is a house built around 1815 for ironfounder John Cragg. It is constructed of stucco and features a slate roof. The building has two storeys and five bays, with a later three-bay extension on the left side. The first bay projects under a gable and is supported by diagonal buttresses. The windows are adorned with label moulds and have casements with ogee-headed lights and iron camesto diamond panes. The entrance features a label mould, a four-centred head, and an iron porch with tracery, topped with a corrugated plastic roof. On the garden side, there is a delicate iron verandah with cresting and trellis supports. Inside, the house includes an elliptical iron staircase with a delicate handrail in Gothic style, as well as beadings on the door panels.
