Description
Nos 10 to 18 on Castle Street is an office building dating from the 1890s. It is constructed of stone with a slate roof and has four storeys plus attics, featuring five bays. The ground floor has mostly modern shop fronts, but No 10 retains its original chemist's shop front. The first floor displays a 1:3:1 arrangement of windows, accented by Corinthian attached columns and an entablature, along with iron railings on the balcony. The second floor also has a 1:3:1 window layout with aedicules and an entablature above. The third floor continues this pattern with 1:3:1 windows, pilasters, columns, and a dentilled cornice. The separate attic windows mirror this design, featuring shell curved pediments. The third floor and attic maintain the rhythm with aedicules that transform into dormers in the center, capped with four panelled finials on the end bays. A large axial stack is present, and there is an ornate open well iron stair supported by cast iron columns located in the light well at the rear.
