Description
38, 40, and 42 High Street is a symmetrical terrace of three houses built in the late 18th century. The houses are constructed of stucco and feature a hipped slate roof. They are two storeys high and consist of five bays, with the end bays projecting forward and adorned with panelled giant pilasters. The central bay also projects forward and includes a first-floor sill band, a top cornice, and a blocking course. The end bay windows have architraves, with the ground floor windows featuring floating cornices. The windows throughout are sashed with glazing bars. The central entrance has an architrave and a floating cornice, along with a complete overlight and a six-panel door. The right return, which is No. 38, is similar in style but has an enclosed porch that is rusticated, with flat pilasters and a cornice, an overlight, and a six-panel door. The left return, No. 42, features some small-paned casements.
