Description

A terrace of seven houses dating from the second quarter of the 19th century, located on Catharine Street, Falkner Street, and St. Bride Street. The houses are built of brick with stone dressings, and have a hipped slate roof. They are three storeys high with a basement, with three bays per house. The first bay of the terrace is a return to No. 2 St. Bride Street, and the final two bays are a return to No. 1 Catharine Street. The facade features a basement lintel band, a first-floor sill band, a top cornice, and a blocking course. Windows have wedge lintels and are sash windows with glazing bars; each house has a blind window on the second floor. Round-headed entrances are set within Doric doorcases with fluted columns. Iron railings are present to the areas and steps, with spear-headed details. No. 42 has a four-panel door. No. 48 has a boarded ground floor and is missing its doorcase columns, as well as one second-floor window (as of 1984). No. 50 retains a complete fanlight and a six-panel door. No. 2 St. Bride Street is of three bays, featuring a Doric doorcase, an almost complete fanlight, and a six-panel door, along with three blind windows. No. 1 Catharine Street is of three bays, with three blind windows, a doorcase featuring angle pilasters and an entablature, a complete overlight, and a half-glazed door. Iron gate posts are situated at the basement steps.
