Description
The Bowden Drinking Fountain, located at the corner of Boaler Street, is a drinking fountain dated 1913. It was given by Mrs. H. McCubbin in memory of Frederic Bowden. The fountain features a square plinth made of red polished marble, with volute brackets at the corners and a round-arched panel on each side. The front displays a bronze inscription plaque, and the cornice is adorned with four segmental open pediments that have cartouches bearing the letter "B". At the top, there is a smaller square section with curly angle brackets and obelisks, topped by a small cupola with an obelisk finial. The front is accessed by curving balustraded steps, which originally had lamps on the ends, although one side of the balustrading has now been removed. Surrounding the fountain is a circular area of cobbles, which is bounded by small iron posts and was formerly enclosed by iron railings.
