Description
The Merseyside Maritime Museum and the International Slavery Museum is a Grade I listed former warehouse located at the east end of the north side of Albert Dock, built between 1841 and 1845 by J Hartley. The structure features an iron frame and brick with stone dressings, topped with an iron-clad roof. It stands five storeys tall and measures 17 by 9 bays. The building includes quoins and a parapet, with the dock facade having a ground floor that is recessed behind a Doric colonnade made of iron columns above granite rubble. The windows are segmental-headed. Albert Dock is recognized as one of the earliest enclosed docks in the world and serves as a complete example of this type.
