Description

The tunnel entrance, built in 1896, was created for the southern extension of the Liverpool Overhead Railway. It is constructed from rock-faced stone and features a skew-arched tunnel mouth flanked by flat buttresses. Above the tunnel mouth is an ashlar panel that records the date and names associated with the structure. The entrance is topped with a parapet and has flanking walls. This tunnel entrance is the only substantial remnant of the overhead railway.
