Description

1-6, Ashton Square is a terrace of six houses built in the late 18th century and altered in the late 19th century. The houses are constructed of brick with a slate roof. They are two storeys high, with one bay to each house. The end bays were originally of one storey but were later raised. The windows have pointed heads and small-paned casements with Y-tracery heads and subsidiary glazing bars; some windows now have plain Y-tracery heads. First-floor casement windows in the end bays have lintels. The entrances are pointed, with those to the end houses on returns. No. 1 is rendered with a 20th-century porch. The group value of these houses lies in their cohesive architectural style and contribution to the character of Ashton Square.
