Description
Rossall School Library is a building from 1850, designed by architect J E Gregan of Manchester. Originally a chapel, it features hammer-dressed stone with ashlar dressings and a pitched slate roof. The library has six cusped lancets on each side and is supported by buttresses. The east end showcases a group of lancets with colonnettes and moulded capitals, while the west end includes two 2-centred arched windows and one inscribed quatrefoil. A gabled porch and a bell-cote are located at the west end. Inside, the roof is supported by arch-braced trusses resting on hammer beams, and the windows are internally splayed. The east window is notable for its colonnettes that support hood moulds.
