Description

This is a former house (No. 91) with an attached chapel (Nos. 93a to 93f), dating from the early to mid 18th century and subsequently altered. The building is now divided into flats and a hairdresser's shop. It’s constructed of brown brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with sandstone dressings, and has hipped roofs covered in composition tiles.

The house is a double-depth, double-fronted structure, with the chapel attached to its left side. The house has three storeys over cellars and presents a symmetrical three-window facade. A moulded gutter cornice runs along the top. A central round-headed doorway is framed by open-pedimented surrounds, including pilasters with entablatures detailed with urns. The doorway contains a six-panel door and a fanlight with radiating glazing bars. The ground floor windows are 4-pane sashed, the first floor windows are 16-pane sashed, and the second floor windows are square. The central second-floor window is a 12-pane sash (with a 8+4 pane configuration), while the others have been altered. All windows have raised sills and wedge lintels. The interior has been altered.

The attached chapel is single-storeyed and features a gutter cornice matching that of the house. A central, round-headed doorway has a moulded architrave with a keystone and a fanlight with radiating lead tracery. Two 20-pane sashed windows flank the doorway. The right-hand window has a fixed 10-pane lower portion and both windows have raised sills and wedge lintels. The building is said to have been a school in the past.
