Description
The remains of Burscough Priory are the remnants of an Augustinian priory founded in the late 12th century. The structure includes two piers located at the junction of the north transept and the crossing, along with the respond of the north arcade and the stump of the north wall of the chancel, which are likely from the late 13th century. Both piers are cruciform in shape, featuring broach bases and remnants of chamfered shafts. Notably, the east pier has a small cusped niche or piscina at its base. The site is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
