Description
This building, known as Nos. 2, 2A, and 4 Stoney Brow, is a block of small cottages that have been converted into three dwellings. It dates from the mid-18th century and has been altered and enlarged over time. The structure is made of coursed graduated sandstone and features a composition tile roof.
Originally, the building was arranged as back-to-back one-up-one-down cottages, with a two-up-two-down through-cottage on the left side, plus an additional section at the left end, which is No. 4. The main part of the building is two storeys high with an attic and has two windows on the front. The doorway for No. 2A is offset to the left and has a rectangular lintel with an altered door. There is one small window on each floor to the left, with the lower window being a bow and both featuring small-paned glazing. To the right, there is a two-light casement window and a three-light sliding sash window, with a three-light casement above the latter, all having rectangular lintels. The building has gable chimneys.
On the right-hand gable wall, there is an added porch and two attic windows. No. 4, which is the lean-to addition on the left, has one-and-a-half storeys, a doorway near the junction, and one three-light casement window on each floor, all with rectangular lintels.
