Description

Harrock Hall is a house dating from the early 17th century, with extensions from the early and mid 19th century, likely replacing earlier structures, and it was restored around 1980. The building is constructed of sandstone ashlar and features a slate roof. It has a symmetrical design with two storeys. The centre of the house showcases rebated and ovolo-moulded mullioned windows with transoms and two drip courses. A prominent feature is the two-storey canted bay window, which has cross windows on three sides and a single light on each return wall. To the left of the bay window, there is a section with five-light windows, and further left is a two-storey porch that projects forward. This porch includes a three-light window on the first floor and an outer doorway with a rounded head and moulded imposts, while the inner doorway features a Tudor arch. Slightly projecting on the left is an early 19th-century bay with chamfered quoins, two drip courses, and tripartite sashed windows with Gothick glazing. The right side of the house mirrors the left, but the stonework suggests it is a later copy, possibly from the mid 19th century. Above the cornice, there is a parapet with rounded battlements over the outer bays and the central bay window. The interior was not accessible during the survey in April 1987, but records from the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England in 1977 noted plastered beams in the hall with quarter-round mouldings and a 19th-century staircase featuring cusped cast-iron arches set into timber balusters.
