Description
A Roman Catholic church and attached presbytery, built in 1823. The church is stuccoed, while the presbytery is of exposed brick, both with slate roofs. The church’s west gable wall is blank except for a lozenge-shaped window near the apex. A gabled porch features a round-headed doorway and is topped with a cross finial, as are the main gables of the church. The north wall is also blank, except for a round window in the chancel. The south wall has three tall, round-headed windows with glazing bars. The presbytery is three bays wide, with sashed windows featuring glazing bars, stone lintels, and sills. The central bay contains a doorway with plain reveals and a round brick head. Chimneys are positioned on each side and between the first and second bays. Inside the church, a west gallery has a panelled front supported by four iron columns. The chancel is separated from the main body of the church by a wall pierced by a large, central round-arched opening, flanked by smaller, similarly shaped openings. Against the east wall are paired engaged Corinthian columns supporting an enriched entablature. Above this is an oval saucer dome. The main area of the church is covered by a flat ceiling with a central circular design.
