Description

This is an early 18th-century barn located approximately 30 metres south of Fairhurst Hall. The barn is constructed from sandstone rubble with a stone slate roof. The south wall features a cart entrance with a segmental arch and hood. To the left of the cart entrance is a window with plain reveals, with two similar windows positioned under the eaves. To the right are external stone steps leading to a first-floor doorway. A 20th-century timber platform projects at door sill level. The gables are coped. The east gable has a doorway with a segmental head, a segmental hood with scrolled ends and a central finial. Keyed circular windows are set on either side of this doorway. Above the doorway is a similar window. A fourth window lights a rear outshut, which appears to be original. A circular owl hole is present. Fairhurst Hall, referenced separately, is located in Wrightington civil parish.
