Description
This barn, located approximately 75 metres south of Cuerdale Hall, dates from around 1700 or earlier. It features a stone plinth and a timber frame with weatherboard cladding, topped with a slate roof. The barn has a rectangular plan consisting of six bays and is constructed using box-frame techniques. It has a high stone plinth, oak sills, posts, and a wallplate, with curved braces connecting the posts to the tie-beams. The roof is a trenched-purlin design with raking struts and a collar, supported by three purlins on each side, with the second purlin featuring additional braces. Each bay's side walls include a central post with knee-bracing and a tenoned rail; one bay also has a rail at knee-brace level connected by studs to the centre rail. A large wagon doorway is located on the north side of the third bay, and there is a loft in the sixth bay. This barn is of high quality and has seen little alteration over the years.
