Description
Showley Fold Farmhouse and the disused house adjoining to the west are two houses built in 1747 and 1828. They are constructed of sandstone rubble and feature roofs made of stone slate and slate. The earlier house, which is now disused, faces south and has a double-depth plan. It includes a 2-storey gabled porch flanked by one bay on each side, featuring 3-light flush chamfered mullioned windows, except for the right-hand ground-floor window, which is a sashed window with glazing bars and a rendered surround. The porch has a 2-light window on the first floor. The door is framed with a quoined surround and has 'G D J 1747' inscribed on the lintel. Above the gable apex, which is coped with kneelers, there is a shield and the inscription 'T 1828 A'. The gables are coped and have chimneys.
Slightly overlapping the facade on the right is a narrow 2-storey wing that projects forward from the gable wall of the adjoining farmhouse. This wing features a coped gable with kneelers and a ball finial, along with a tall first-floor window that has a chamfered surround, a central mullion, and a hood. The east facade of the farmhouse has one bay on each side of a 2-storey gabled porch. The ground-floor bays have modern French windows, with the right-hand window set in a chamfered stone surround with a hood. The first-floor windows also have similar surrounds with hoods, and the porch window retains its central mullion. The door features a stone surround with a Tudor-arched head and hood. The gables are coped with kneelers, and the porch gable has a pine cone finial. The gable chimneys have rendered octagonal caps.
