Description
Calder Cottage and The Marjorie are two houses, originally part of a row of houses, built around 1830 for John Taylor of Moreton Hall, possibly designed by Websters of Kendal. The buildings are constructed of pebbledashed rubble with sandstone dressings and feature a slate roof. They are two storeys high. The windows are sashed with gothick glazing and have chamfered stone surrounds with pointed heads and hoods.
On the left side of the facade, there is a two-bay range that projects forward under a parallel pitched roof. The main facade to the right consists of three bays, with additional windows in the outer bays on the ground floor. The middle bay features a door with a similar surround to the right. To the right, there is one bay of a single storey under a lean-to roof, which has a door to the left with a matching surround.
In the angle between the projecting range and the main facade, there is a single-storey porch with an embattled parapet. Its door also has a chamfered stone surround with a pointed head and hood. There are chimneys located to the left and right of the facade and between the bays.
