Description

Dutton Hall is a house dating from around 1600, with later alterations in the 17th century. It is constructed of sandstone that is squared and coursed, except for the right-hand cross-wing, which is made of coursed rubble, and features a slate roof. The building consists of a two-storey hall flanked by two cross-wings, with the left-hand wing likely being older and predating the bay window of the hall that adjoins its right-hand return wall.

The windows throughout the house are mullioned, featuring both an inner and outer chamfer, along with hoods. The left-hand cross-wing has a prominent 9-light window on the ground floor and a 5-light window above it on the first floor, both with hoods that have a roll moulding underneath. The square bay window of the hall boasts a 14-light mullioned and transomed window on each floor, topped by a balustrade. On the right-hand return wall of the bay window, there is a 6-light window on each floor, and to the right of the bay window on the first floor, a 3-light window can be found. The right-hand cross-wing features a 4-light window on each floor, along with a one-light window to the left on the first floor, positioned above the door. The door itself has a chamfered surround with a triangular head and hood, while the inner door of the internal porch is adorned with a moulded surround and triangular head. The right-hand return wall of this cross-wing includes a 5-light window on the ground floor and a 3-light window without a hood on the first floor.

Inside, the hall contains a moulded and shouldered fireplace of 18th-century design, located within the former firehood area. There are two chamfered stone doorways with triangular heads leading into the left-hand cross-wing. The staircase is from the 18th century and features ramped handrails. Additionally, above a fireplace on the first floor, there is a plaster panel decorated with vine scroll motifs.
