Description
A row of houses dating from around 1830 was built for John Taylor of Moreton Hall, likely designed by Websters of Kendal. The row, numbered 10 to 18, is constructed from sandstone rubble with slate roofing, though numbers 10 and 18 are now covered in felt. It is built in a Gothic style and incorporates a hillside, resulting in three storeys at the front. Access to the front doors is via a first-floor walkway, supported by iron railings and reached by flights of stone steps at each end of the row. Each house originally contained one bay. The first and second floor windows have chamfered stone surrounds with pointed heads, hoods, and sashes featuring Gothic glazing. Each house originally had a studded door, itself framed by a similar surround. Below the walkway, each house originally featured a window with a plain stone surround; those at numbers 16 and 18 had sashes with glazing bars. To the right of each window was a door, also with a plain stone surround. Number 10, at the left end of the row, differs from the others, with a door at the left – featuring plain reveals – and a window to its right with a rendered surround. A chimney is situated to the left of each house. The building is finished with a stone gutter cornice.
