Description

No. 6 East Cliff is a vicarage, now used as a hostel, dated 1846 on the gable of the porch. It is constructed of snecked sandstone with quoins and ashlar dressings, topped with a slate roof. The building has an irregular double-depth plan, featuring a projecting wing to the left. It is designed in a 17th-century vernacular style, characterized by mullioned windows and steeply pitched roofs. The structure has two storeys and an attic, raised over a basement, with a wide asymmetrical facade that includes four windows on the first floor.

The left wing has coupled unequal gables, with the smaller gable on the right belonging to an integral two-storey porch. This porch features a Tudor-arched doorway with a deep moulded surround and hoodmould, accessed by a flight of steps between gatepiers in the area wall. There is a small lancet window on the first floor and a shield in the gable inscribed "MDCCCLVI". To the left, the main portion of the wing has a four-light window at ground floor, a smaller three-light window on the first floor, and a lancet window in the attic. The gables are steeply pitched and coped, with an apex cross on the larger gable.

The main range includes a transomed three-stage six-light stair window near the center, a two-light window on each floor to the left, a large five-light window to the right, and a smaller four-light window above. There is a skylight in the roof and several tall triple-flue chimneys, including one at the angle and another at the right-hand gable. The rear and interior of the building have been altered.
