Description
This is a pair of small town houses located in Preston, dating from the mid-19th century. The facades have been rebuilt using modern brick, but retain sandstone dressings and a slate roof. The houses follow a double-depth plan, with each having a single room at the front and coupled extensions at the rear. Each house has cellars and two storeys. They each feature one window at the first floor level.
The design includes a stone plinth, a first-floor sill band, a plain frieze, and a moulded gutter cornice. The doorways, arranged as a group of three with a through-lobby doorway between the houses, have moulded architraves and cornices supported by consoles with guttae. Each house has a single window on each floor, all of which have been altered. Chimneys are located on the roof ridge. The interior and rear of the houses have not been inspected.
The buildings are included on the heritage list for their group value, as part of a row comprising the church of St Ignatius and other similar houses around the square.
