Description

This is a row of three small town houses located in Latham Street, Preston, built around 1840 and subsequently altered. The houses are constructed of red brick laid in a Flemish bond pattern, with sandstone dressings, and a slate roof. They follow a double-depth plan, with each house having a single front and an individual rear extension. The houses are two storeys high over cellars, each featuring two windows at the front, and have a plain frieze and a moulded gutter cornice detail. Each house has a doorway on the left; the doorway to number 7 was damaged at the time of the 1989 survey, but the others retain doorcases consisting of engaged Tuscan columns, a plain frieze, and a moulded cornice, along with a simple overlight above. The ground floor windows have raised sills and wedge lintels, and are mostly sashed windows (12 panes over the door of number 5, otherwise without glazing bars). The windows at number 7 have been altered. The rear and interior of the properties were not inspected. The row of houses forms a group with number 3 to the left and number 8 to the right.
