Description
Nos. 7 and 8 Spring Bank are a pair of small town houses built in the mid-19th century and have been altered over time. They are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with sandstone dressings and a slate roof. The houses have double-depth interlocking plans, with No. 7 being double-fronted and No. 8 single-fronted, both featuring back extensions. They stand two storeys over cellars and have a total of five windows on the first floor, with a sill-band, plain frieze, and a moulded gutter cornice.
The entrance to No. 7 is centrally located, while No. 8 has its doorway to the left. Both doorways are framed by Tuscan pilasters and topped with dentilled entablatures and cornices with blocking courses. The doors are panelled and have overlights. Each house features a stone 3-light canted bay window on the left and right sides, supported by pilasters and topped with a moulded cornice and blocking course, with 4-pane sashed glazing. However, No. 7 has altered 4-pane glazing in the window to the right and altered small-pane glazing above, while No. 8 has unhorned 12-pane sashes on the first floor. The houses also have gable and ridge chimneys. The rear and interior were not inspected. They are included for their group value.
