Description
This is a town house, dating from the early 1820s and subsequently altered. It is now used as a bank. Built of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with sandstone dressings and a slate roof, the building follows a double-depth, double-fronted plan. The symmetrical facade has three windows per floor. A sill band, plain frieze, moulded cornice and blocking course run along the top.
The central doorway, reached by four steps that have recently been extended to the left, has a wide, elliptical head. The doorway is framed by a fine doorcase featuring set-in fluted Greek Doric columns and pilasters, a dentilled frieze, a mutuled cornice, a six-panel door, and a fanlight with a Greek-key surround. The ground and first floors have 12-pane sash windows with raised sills and wedge lintels. The second floor has small, square, two-light casements set beneath the frieze, also with raised sills. The roof has coped gables and one chimney located to the left, behind the ridge. The rear of the building and the interior have not been inspected.
