Description
98 and 99 Fishergate is a former bank building from the early 20th century, constructed in ashlar stone with a parapeted roof and mostly hidden stacks. It is designed in a classical style and features three stories with a four-window range and a one-window canted corner. The windows are 6/6 sashes set in moulded architraves, each with keystones and alternately curved pediments. These windows are linked to cills above, which do not have pediments. The ground floor displays channelled rustication, three late 20th-century windows, and an arched doorway to the left. The main entrance, located on the canted corner, features an arched doorway framed by an aedicule of attached Ionic columns on pedestals, which support a cushion frieze and pediment. The side facade mirrors the three-window design. The building is topped with a modillion cornice and a parapet, which includes a balustrade in parts. The corner features a curved pediment above the cornice, with the word "Bank" inscribed in the tympanum. The interior retains decorative elements in the banking hall.
