Description
1-4 Stanley Terrace is a terrace of five townhouses built around 1820, now altered, located in Preston. The buildings are constructed of red brick in Flemish bond with sandstone dressings and feature a hipped slate roof. Each house has a double-depth plan, with the properties on Stanley Terrace being single-fronted, while Nos. 86 and 87 Fishergate Hill are double-fronted. They rise three storeys over cellars and have a symmetrical arrangement of windows, with two windows on each floor, plus one additional window on the top floor, totaling 2+2+2+2+1 windows on Stanley Terrace. The houses have a plain frieze, a moulded cornice, and a low blocking course around the structure.
Each house features a round-headed doorway to the right, framed by engaged Tuscan columns, an entablature, and a cornice. The ground and first-floor windows are tall with raised sills and wedge lintels, while the second-floor windows are square, also with raised sills, all having altered glazing. The cellar windows are protected by gratings and have wedge lintels. The ridge chimney stacks are present on the roofs. No. 86 Fishergate Hill, which is the right-hand return of the terrace, has a symmetrical three-window facade that matches the style of the terrace. To the right is No. 87 Fishergate Hill, an early addition that is now incorporated with No. 86, also three storeys and three windows, featuring a simple round-headed doorway, ground floor additions, and a large iron fire-escape in the center.
