Description
Ashlar House and Ashlar Cottage are two stone buildings with a stone slate roof, featuring stone coping and finials at the gables and eaves. The structure has a three-cell linear plan, is two storeys high, and consists of three bays. A two-storey porch is located between the first and second bays, supported by kneelers that end in tall finials. There are two moulded tablets inscribed with "1594/Richard/Grimshaw/John Box" and "Fear God, know thyself/Honor the/Prince NH". The porch features a moulded, four-centred arch-headed doorway.
On the first floor, there is a three-light stone mullion and transom window, along with a moulded string course at both the first floor and eaves level. To the left of the porch, there is another three-light stone mullion and transom window, while to the right, a plain doorway has been inserted into a large mullion and transom window. The left side retains three lights, and there is also a five-light window of similar design. All ground floor windows have moulded and returned dripstones, while the first floor features one three-light, one six-light, and one five-light window, with the six-light window divided by a broad centre mullion. Some windows display masons' marks.
Inside, there is one stone moulded doorway with a decorated head. A report by the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England mentions a short king post truss roof.
