Description

Whitehough House is a farmhouse with outbuildings, originally dated to 1593 but rebuilt in the early 17th century and altered in the early 19th century. The structure is made of rubble with quoins, and part of it is limewashed. The layout is complex due to various extensions but is primarily based on a hall range with a cross-wing.

The south-facing front features two gables, both topped with stone coping. The smaller gable originally served as the porch for the farmhouse, although the ground floor has since been enclosed by a lean-to. Above this porch, there is a continuous dripstone and three tablets that bear a long inscription commemorating the construction of the house by Christopher and Jenet Bullcocke in 1593. The first floor includes a three-light stone mullion window with a dripstone, while the larger gable has a four-light window on the first floor. To the left of the porch on the ground floor, there is one four-light window and one six-light window, both with a continuous dripstone above. The first floor above these windows has one three-light window and one four-light window, which are similar in style. The extensions to the left are of a later date and have been altered. The east front has also been modified and reflects an early 19th-century character. The interior has undergone significant alterations.
